Lara Coldicott
General Manager, Birmingham

Lara is a local girl, and started working at Après Birmingham seven years ago, after applying for a weekend job while completing her degree (in Business Studies and Marketing). She soon fell in love with the place and its people, and it has been her full-time commitment ever since. She has worked her way up from being a part-time bartender to the General Manager, and now oversees the running of one of the largest venues of its kind in Birmingham.

Nigel Grantham
Head Chef

After working his way through college, Nigel was snapped up as commis chef at the celebrated Jonathan’s – a Victorian-themed restaurant offering delicacies such as jugged hare, pig’s trotters and Jonathan’s award winning trifle. He was promoted eventually to head chef, and secured 2 Rosettes and numerous other awards and acknowledgements. In 1993, Nigel secured his greatest accolade when meeting the love of his life, Denise James (the Office Administrator for our parent company, Town & Country Inns). He was headhunted in 1999 as chef de partie for Le Petit Blanc, where he was promoted rapidly to senior sous and, again, head chef. He worked alongside Raymond Blanc on many occasions, and enjoyed around 12 minutes of fame when appearing on television as Maître Blanc’s assistant. After a spell at Mal Maison, Nigel spent some time travelling (visiting many fabulous restaurants, his favourite being Balthazar in New York) before settling eventually in Birmingham at Town & Country, where he was appointed Head Chef for Apres (on Broadway Plaza) in 2006. When not working, Nigel relishes golf, science fiction and heavy metal – only two of which he enjoys at the same time.
