Guy Sheldon 47 years old. Born in Wolverhampton, lived in Dudley West Midlands for 30 years before moving to Cheltenham. Cut my teeth in the Bar & Restaurant trade as General Manager @ Montpellier Wine Bar, in Cheltenham .Learnt the trade & developed a good grounding in the industry but after 9 years working in a very busy environment decided within a week to move jobs (and turning 40…mid-life crisis) to join a smaller Restaurant still in Cheltenham. The pace of the job was to slow for me & as they say, ‘a sliding door moment occurred’ as I literally bumped into Mark Jones, Operation Director of Après as he walked past a sliding door to the Restaurant where I was standing in. I had known of Mark for several years as my friends & I used to visit Birmingham every week to go to Studdi Bakers on Broad Street every Sunday which he used to be part of.

He asked would I like to join the Après Team… 7 years later. Still here …still enjoying it.

CARLOS OLIVEIRA
Assistant Manager, Cheltenham

Carlos is from Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he grew up immersed in every facet of his family’s restaurant business. He moved at the age of 17 to the United States to attend university, but returned to the hospitality industry, where he met a visitor from Cheltenham with whom he became such good friends that he accepted an invitation to work at the Racecourse. After almost 3 years in the town, Carlos stopped by chance for a drink at Après, and became a regular. A few months later he noticed an advert for assistant managers, and applied, thinking nothing would come of it. However, exactly 10 minutes after emailing his CV, Guy Sheldon invited him for an interview, and gave him the job. 2 years on, he still loves the venue and its people, and he remains a key part of Après’ continuing success.

Sergio Fandino 29 from Lisbon, Portugal. I’ve been doing bar work (on and off) since I was 18. Move to Cheltenham in 2007 and worked in night clubs. In August 2008 thought that the new hot place in town, Après Bar (opened April 2008) would be good as a second job so decided to hand my CV. Couple days later they call me, I had my trial shift on a super busy Friday and was hired by Simon Willetts (1st GM) to work part time. Made my way through the ranks, Cellar Supervisor, Bar Supervisor up to Assistant Manager (Oct 2013).
